Prior to the French Revolution, the Dutch United Provinces used a mix of medieval denominations such as stuivers, gulden, ducats and ducatons. The Batavian Republic and Kingdom of Holland, both French puppet states, continued the old system but when the Netherlands were annexed to Napoleon's empire in 1810, French decimal coinage was introduced. Napoleon was toppled in 1814 and in 1815 the kingdom of the Netherlands was constituted at the Congress of Vienna. In 1817, decimal coinage was introduced, with 100 cents = one gulden. For 1821-30, two mints operated; "U" = Utrecht, "B" = Brussels. The majority of ducats dated before 1849 were clandestinely made in Russia. Altho technically counterfeits, they are indistinguishable from genuine product and are collected with the regular issues.
In the table header, "c" = "cents" and "G" = "gulden." The numbers in the boxes are the Schulman catalog numbers; a blank box indicates none were made. A Schulman number in blue will link to a page on that coin. A notable feature of Dutch coinage is its frequent interruptions; unlike other industrialized nations, the Netherlands did not issue every denomination year after year. The chart does not include the very rare double ducats of 1854, 1867 and 1868.
Post war issues (1948-2001)
After World War Two, coinage resumed in 1948 with an issue of one, five, ten and twenty-five cents for Wilhelmina before she abdicated. We separate this table to drop the obsolete half cent, two-and-a-half cents, half gulden, three gulden and twenty gulden and add the fifty gulden. Schulman numbers have not been assigned for coins minted after 1975.

Gallery of privy marks
The privy marks on Dutch coins are the personal symbols of the mintmasters. They generally do not affect the value of a coin except in those years where two privy marks exist and one is scarcer than the other, such as occurred in 1845 and 1875. A star after a privy mark indicates an acting appointment made on the death or retirement of the incumbent. They are as follows:
- torch (1818-38): Y. D. C. Suermondt
- palm branch (used at Brussels 1821-30): G. D. Bourgogne Herber
- lily (1838-45): P. C. G. Poelman
- lily with pearls (1845-46) and sword (1846-74): H. A. Bake
- sword with scabbard (1874) and ax (1875-87): P. H. Taddel
- ax with star (1887-88) and halbard (1888-1909); H. L. A. Bake
- halbard with star (1909): G. Blom
- seahorse (1909-33): C. Hoitsema
- bunch of grapes (1933-42): W. J. van Heteren
- acorn (1941-45): Philadelphia mint (Utrecht products of the Nazi occupation did not bear privy marks)
- fish (1945-69): J. W. A. van Hengel
- rooster (1969-79): M. V. den Brandhof
- rooster with star (1980): B. C. H. J. Smit
- anvil (1980-87): J. de Jong
- bow and arrow (1988-99): Chr. van Draanen
- bow and arrow with star (2000): E. J. Schouwenburg
- grapes and grape leaf (2001): R. Bruens
- grapes and grape leaf with star (2002) and sailing ship (2003-): M. T. Brouwer
