CNG Lissner sale, lot 683

This specimen was lot 683 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $907.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS, Kingdom. Wilhelmina. 1890-1948. Proof AR 1/2 Gulden. Utrecht mint; muntmeestertekens: seahorse and winged caduceus. Dr. C. Hoitsema, mintmaster. Dated 1921. In NGC encapsulation graded Proof 63. Lovely brilliant proof with just a hint of toning. A rare coin that is seldom seen. Purchased from Ponterio & Associates, March 1985." This type was struck 1921-22 and 1928-30. It is the last half gulden issued. This specimen sold for twelve times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 5,000,000.

Specification: 5 g, 0.945 fine silver, 22 mm diameter. This specimen 21 mm diameter, 4.98 g, 6h axis.
