This specimen was lot 11405 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $1,998. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Peso, 1949. NGC AU Details--Surface Hairlines." This type was issued in large numbers 1947-48. A small quantity was made in 1949 but never officially released. Of course, a few got out and are now famous rarities. The next issue of pesos was only .300 fine.
Recorded mintage: 4,000,000.
Specification: 14 g, .500 silver, .400 copper, .060 nickel, .040 zinc, 32 mm diameter, reeded edge.
