Netherlands 1840 gulden
This specimen was lot 655 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $4,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS, Kingdom. William I. 1815-1840. Proof AR Gulden. Utrecht mint; muntmeestertekens: lis and winged caduceus. P.C.G. Poelman, mintmaster. Dated 1840. In NGC encapsulation graded Proof 66. Superbly iridescent deep toning over choice fully proof surfaces. Only certified proof of this one year type. Extremely rare. Purchased from Paul Davis, December 1969." This type was struck 1840 only; despite this, it is more available than the issue of 1818-37 for William I.
