This specimen was lot 310 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €240 (about US$340 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN - WILLEM II 1840-1849, 1 Gulden, 1849 Hoofd naar links door D. v. d. Kellen Jr. Mt. mercuriusstaf. TYPE II b (1846-1849). Mmt. zwaard, Silver S. Zeer fraai +. (kingdom of the Netherlands, William II, 1840-49, one gulden of 1849. Obverse: head left by D. V. D. Kellen, Jr. Mintmarks Mercury's staff and sword. Choice very fine.)"

This type was struck 1840-49 at Utrecht. The 1846 is the most common date but no proofs are mentioned in the SCWC. The contemporary French silver two francs was 10 g, 0.900 fine. William II died on March 17, 1849. Coins exist for William III dated 1849 but not one gulden.

Recorded mintage: 650,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 10 g, 0.945 fine silver, .303 troy oz ASW, 28 mm diameter, edge lettered ★ GOD ★ ZY ★ MET ★ ONS, this specimen 9.99 g.
