CNG Lissner sale, lot 682

This type, struck 1910, 1912, 1913 and 1919, features the "mantled bust" of queen Wilhelmina. On her coronation in 1898, the regency ended and she assumed full powers of the throne. This bust was used on all the silver and gold denominations from the ten cents to the ten gulden. The second specimen was lot 682 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,210. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS, Kingdom. Wilhelmina. 1890-1948. Proof AR 1/2 Gulden. Utrecht mint; muntmeestertekens: seahorse and winged caduceus. Dr. C. Hoitsema, mintmaster. Dated 1910. In NGC encapsulation graded Proof 65 WINGS APPROVED. Superb gem proof iridescently toned with hues of blue and amber."

Recorded mintage: 4,000,000 (a common date).

Specification: 5 g, 0.945 fine silver, 22 mm diameter, reeded edge. The second specimen 21 mm diameter, 5.03 g, 6h axis.
