Netherlands 1962 5 cents
This specimen was lot 24379 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. 5 Cents, 1962. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: fish. PCGS PROOF-65 Red Brown Gold Shield. The much more difficult proof striking, this wonderful example offers a high degree of vibrancy and luster atop its mirrored surfaces." Queen Wilhelmina abdicated in 1948 in protest of Dutch colonial policy in Indonesia in favor of her daughter, Juliana, who would rule until 1980. New coin types were therefore necessary and were introduced in 1950. This bronze five cents was struck without change until 1980. No dates are rare.
Recorded mintage: 15,000,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 3.5 g, bronze, 21 mm diameter, plain edge.
