Netherlands 1828 cent
This specimen was lot 24326 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Cent, 1828. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: torch. William I. PCGS MS-63 Brown Gold Shield. Featuring a fairly deep brown appearance, this choice specimen is tied with just one other example as the only specimens for the type in the PCGS census." This type was struck in Utrecht and Brussels 1817-37 for William I. The 1828 is somewhat scarce. After Belgium obtained her independence in 1830, the Brussels mint continued striking for the new country while the Utrecht mint operates to this day for the Dutch government.
