Netherlands 1826-B 5 gulden
The first specimen was lot 820 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (New York, October 2010), where it sold for $488.75. The catalog description[1] noted,
"NETHERLANDS. Willem I, 1815-1840. 5 Gulden, 1826 B. Brussels. Tall bust l., star below. Rv. Crowned shield. 2-date type of the first King of the Netherlands. About Extremely Fine."
The second specimen was lot 1088 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it sold for €320 (about US$470 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[3] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume des Pays-Bas, Guillaume Ier (1815-1830), 5 gulden, 1826B, Bruxelles. Défaut de flan sur la tranche. Belle couleur. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of the United Netherlands, William I, 1815-30, five gulden of 1826, Brussels mint. Edge defect, nice color, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This rare two-year type was struck in Brussels, then a part of the Netherlands. Belgium obtained her independence in 1830.
