This specimen was lot 31269 in Heritage Sale 3115 (Chicago, May 2024), where it sold for $15,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands: Wilhelmina Unlisted Proof Ducat of 1906. Wilhelmina gold Proof Ducat 1906 PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC, Utrecht mint. A stunning little Ducat of the upmost rarity. Our example hails from the second-lowest mintage date recorded for the type at 29,379 pieces, just 95 more pieces produced than the 1901 key date. However, there is no Proof listing across the major catalogs for this 1906 emission, and this cataloger was able to locate only one other example at public auction in recent memory. Absolute scarcity aside, this offering is irrefutably attractive, throwing bolts of luster around the flan during in-hand inspection with very few wisps of note despite the Proof finish. The iconic Dutch knight retains incredible clarity, every line on his cuisses and helmet revealing themselves in full articulation. One of several excellent Dutch rarities in this sale, sure to excite more advanced collectors. From the Coenen Collection." The kingdom of the Netherlands began striking ducats in 1814, when most countries had discontinued the denomination. This subtype was struck 1894-95, 1899-1917, 1920-28, 1932, 1937 and most dates are common.

Recorded mintage: 29,379, a scarce date.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, 20.5-21 mm diameter.
