Netherlands 1883 cent
This specimen was lot 71776 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Cent, 1883. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: Broadaxe. William III. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown. Minimally handled with more red color than brown appearing over the surfaces." This type is listed for 1877-84. This type, struck for William III (1849-90), is virtually indistinguishable from those struck for Wilhelmina (1890-1948) (KM 107.2). This date is common in all grades. In 1877, the cent was reduced from 3.84 g to 2.5 g and struck in that weight until 1941.
