SB121-24325r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24325 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Cent, 1822. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: torch. William I. PCGS MS-64 Brown Gold Shield. An area of dark spotting is noted on the obverse, but this rather vibrant near-Gem offers some pleasing red-brown surfaces and shimmering luster." This type was struck in Utrecht and Brussels 1817-37 for William I. The 1822 is fairly common. After Belgium obtained her independence in 1830, the Brussels mint continued striking for the new country while the Utrecht mint operates to this day for the Dutch government.

Recorded mintage: 20,462,000.

Specification: 3.84 g, copper, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 47, Sch-326.
