This specimen was lot 317 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €100 (about US$142 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN - WILLEM III 1849-1890, 21/2 Gulden of rijksdaalder, 1861 Hoofd naar rechts door J. P. Schouberg. Mt. mercuriusstaf.TYPE I a (1849-1874). Mmt. zwaard, Silver. S Graffiti, haarlijntjes. Zeer fraai. (kingdom of the Netherlands, William III, 1849-90, 2½ gulden or rijkdaalder of 1861. Obverse: head right by J. P. Schouberg. Mintmarks Mercury's staff and sword. Scarce, graffiti, hairlines, very fine.)"

This specimen is a middle date of a type struck at the Utrecht mint 1849-74. Most of the dates are common; this one is somewhat scarce. After the final issue of 1874, no 2½ gulden were issued until 1898. The 0.945 fine alloy seems to be unique to the Netherlands.

Recorded mintage: 876,003.

Specification: 25 g, 0.945 fine silver, .760 troy oz ASW, 38 mm diameter, edge lettered ★ GOD ★ ZY ★ MET ★ ONS, this specimen 24.91 g.
