Netherlands 1873 10 cents

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72545

This specimen was lot 72545 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. 10 Cents, 1873. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: sword. William III. NGC MS-65. Featuring a slight cameo nature through its frosted devices, this Gem minor exudes a dazzling amount of lustrous brilliance." This type was struck 1849-50, 1853-56, 1859, 1862-63, 1868-74, 1876-90. It is not rare but tough to find choice. It had a face value of about four United States cents at the time of issue. This example sold for one-third the catalog value.
