Netherlands 1847 gulden
This specimen was lot 665 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,028.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS, Kingdom. William II. 1840-1849. AR Gulden. Utrecht mint; muntmeestertekens: sword and winged caduceus. H.A. van den Wall Bake, mintmaster. Dated 1847. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. A superb original toned gem. Purchased from Bowers & Ruddy, December 1981." This type was struck 1840-49 at Utrecht. The 1846 is the most common date but the 1847 is not rare. The contemporary French silver two francs was 10 g, 0.900 fine.
