Netherlands 1821 1/2 cent
This specimen was lot 2046 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €260 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, Koninkrijk, Willem I (1815-1840), Koper 1/2 cent, 1821, Utrecht. Medailleslag. Zeer zeldzaam. Deuken aan de rand. bijna Zeer Fraai. (kingdom of the Netherlands, William I, 1815-40, copper half cent of 1821, Utrecht mint, medal rotation. Very rare, edge bumps, about Very Fine.)"
This type was struck at Utrecht (shown here) and Brussels 1818-37 and is common in circulated condition. This specimen is rare because of the medal rotation.
Recorded mintage: 1,648,000 plus proofs.
