The first specimen was lot 21630 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $2,070. The catalog description[1] noted, "Wilhelmina 2 1/2 Gulden 1898, MS63 NGC, period after P, satiny surfaces with appealing amber toning emerging in the legends, very scarce grade for this popular world crown featuring the youthful bust of Wilhelmina." This type, struck 1898 only, has always been popular and expensive. Fortunately, the smaller one gulden, half gulden and 25 cent coins are much more available and affordable. This date is the first emission of this denomination since 1874 and the last until 1929.

Recorded mintage: 100,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.945 fine silver, .760 troy oz ASW, 38 mm diameter, edge lettered ★ GOD ★ ZY ★ MET ★ ONS.
