Netherlands 1819 5 cents
This specimen was lot 3547 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,559 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Wilhelm I. 1815-1840 5 Cents 1819. Utrecht. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Polierte Platte. NGC PF64 Cameo. (kingdom of the Netherlands, William I, 1815-40, five cents of 1819, Utrecht mint. Very rare, especially in this quality, proof, in NGC PF-64 Cameo holder.)"
This type was struck in Utrecht and Brussels 1818-28. The 1819 is rare. After Belgium obtained her independence in 1830, the Brussels mint continued striking for the new country while the Utrecht mint operates to this day for the Dutch government. When the denomination was resumed in 1848, the fineness was raised to .640 and the weight reduced to 0.68 g.
