SB121-24328r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24328 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. 1/2 Cent, 1846. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: sword. William II. PCGS MS-65 Brown Gold Shield. Exceeded in the PCGS census by just two examples, this shimmering and blazing Gem offers a good deal of reddish brilliance radiating from beneath." Altho the SCWC divides Dutch half cents into three types (KM 51 for 1818-37, KM 68 for 1841-47, KM 90 for 1850-77), they are, in fact, indistinguishable except by date. This is the lowest mintage of the four dates struck for William II but is awarded no premium.

Recorded mintage: 600,000.

Specification: copper, 1.92 g, 16 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-68, Sch-540.
