Netherlands 1972 ducat

Jean Elsen sale 123, lot 1367

The Netherlands was the last country to struck ducats on a regular basis. This type, a refreshed version of a type struck basically unchanged 1815-1937, is common tho the 1960 is slightly scarcer. This specimen was lot 1367 in Jean Elsen sale 123 (Brussels, December 2014), where it sold for €90 (about US$131 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"NEDERLAND, Koninkrijk, Juliana (1948-1980), AV dukaat, 1972. FDC. (kingdom of the Netherlands, Wilhelmina (1890-1948), gold ducat of 1972, uncirculated.)"

Other dates include 1974-78. A scarce variety comes with medal rotation instead of the usual coin rotation.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 21 mm diameter, reeded edge.
