Sincona sale 20, lot 3096

This specimen was lot 3096 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "1 Gulden 1864. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (choice extremely fine.)" This type was struck 1850-67 in substantial numbers. No one gulden coins were struck between 1867 and 1892. Curiously, while the half, one and 2½ gulden pieces were 0.945 fine silver, the five, ten and twenty-five cent issues were only 0.640 fine.

Recorded mintage: 3,600,143 (a somewhat better date).

Specification: 10 g, 0.945 fine silver, .303 troy oz ASW, 28 mm diameter, this specimen 9.97 g.
