SB1024-75104r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75104 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Silesia. 18 Kreuzer, 1752-B. Breslau Mint. Friedrich II. NGC MS-61. An alluring and bright Mint State 18 Kreuzer, offering good eye appeal and much charm throughout." After Frederick the Great of Prussia seized Silesia in 1742, he issued kreuzer denominated coinage for the province which did not directly convert into the thaler-based coinage used in the rest of the realm. One, three, six, 15 and 18 kreuzer were issued along with one and two groschel pieces. This type was struck 1752-54 and was the first time Frederick issued this denomination. The last 18 kreuzer was struck in 1758. In 1750, the mints were reorganized and the mintmaster's initials dropped in favor of mintmarks (A = Berlin, B = Breslau, C = Cleve, D = Aurich, E = Konigsberg, F = Magdeburg and G = Stettin).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.84 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-969.1.
