Künker sale 353, lot 3380

This specimen was lot 3380 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €550 (about US$766 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1752, A, Berlin. Ohne Hermelinmantel und auf jeder Seite der Waffengruppe 7 Spitzen. Von großer Seltenheit. Schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1752, Berlin mint, without an ermine mantle and 7 points on each side of the weapon group on the reverse. Very rare, fine.)"

This type was struck 1750-52 but is fairly common. Another thaler (Dav-2583) was struck at Breslau in 1752. Despite the bold label, "EIN REICHS THALER," it was not, being reduced in weight and fineness.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 22.72 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 21,76 g.

Catalog reference: KM 255, Dav-2582; Olding 10 b; Kluge 58.
