Künker sale 353, part of lot 3608

This specimen was part of lot 3608 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), which sold for €120 (about US$167 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 18-Gröscher a) 18-Gröscher 1752 S/E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit Signatur S im Armabschnitt und Münzzeichen auf der Rückseite in viereckigem Schild. Stempelschneider Schwanefelder. Erworben am 28.3.1987...2 Stück., Fast sehr schön. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 18 groscher of 1752, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with initial "S" below the bust and the mintmark in a rectangular shield. [One of] two pieces, about very fine.)"

This type was struck in 1751-54 for use in East Prussia and the neighboring parts of Poland. It was worth about a fifth of a thaler and was accompanied by a six groscher and three groscher.
