Prussia 1751-E 18 groscher
The first specimen was lot 3602 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €60 (about US$84 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 18-Gröscher 1751, E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit FRIDERICUS BORUSSORUM REX in der Vorderseitenumschrift und PRUSS in der Rückseitenumschrift. R Prägeschwächen, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Schulten + Co. Köln, Oktober 1989, Nr. 1640. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 18 groscher of 1751, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with FRIDERICUS BORUSSORUM REX in the obverse legend and PRUSS in the reverse legend. Rare, weakly struck, about extremely fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 3603 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €420 (about US$585 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 18-Gröscher 1751, E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit PORVSS in der Rückseitenumschrift. Von größter Seltenheit. Winz. Stempelfehler, sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 16, Dortmund 2000, Nr. 304. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 18 groscher of 1751, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with "PORVSS" in the reverse legend. Extremely rare, minor field flaws, very fine.)"
This type was struck in 1751-54 for use in East Prussia and the neighboring parts of Poland. It was worth about a fifth of a thaler and was accompanied by a six groscher and three groscher.
