Künker sale 353, lot 3565

This specimen was lot 3565 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €80 (about US$111 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler 1751, A, Berlin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Breites kleines Monogramm und Rosetten zu den Seiten der Wertzahl sowie dem Münzzeichen. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Monasterium 8, Münster 2000, Nr. 1179. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler of 1751, Berlin mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg. Large small monogram and rosettes by the value and the mint mark. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1750-53. Altho valued at 1/48 thaler, this coin had only 1/53 as much silver. In 1750, the mints were reorganized and the mintmaster's initials dropped in favor of mintmarks (A = Berlin, B = Breslau, C = Cleve, D = Aurich, E = Konigsberg, F = Magdeburg and G = Stettin).
