Prussia 1751-C thaler Dav-2584
This specimen was lot 3432 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,531 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1751, C, Cleve. Mit Rosettenrand. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1751, Cleve mint, with rosettes on edge. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1751-53 but is fairly scarce. Other thalers were struck at Breslau (Dav-2583) and Berlin (Dav-2582) in 1751. Despite the bold label, "EIN REICHS THALER," it was not, being reduced in weight and fineness.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 22.72 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 21,16 g.
