Künker sale 353, lot 3580

This specimen was lot 3580 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €90 (about US$125 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/24 Taler 1751, B, Breslau. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. R Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 20, Osnabrück 1991, Nr. 1764. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/24 thaler of 1751, Breslau mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg. Rare, planchet flaws, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This is the first issue of this denomination that is not extremely rare. It was struck 1751-54 with the date on the obverse (shown here) and 1751-52 with the date on the reverse (KM 265). This coin was valued at 1/24 thaler yet contained only 1/26 as much silver.

Recorded mintage: 532,690 + 1,573,371 of KM 265 (date on reverse).

Specification: 2.08 g, 0.312 fine silver, this specimen 1,95 g.
