Künker sale 353, lot 3583

This specimen was lot 3583 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €260 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler 1750, B, Breslau. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Äußerst selten. Kl. Schrötlingsfehler, fast vorzüglich. Erworben am 6.9.1984 von Udo Gans, Arnsberg. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler of 1750, Breslau mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg. Extremely rare, minor field marks, about very fine.)"

This type was struck 1750-53. This is a better date. Altho valued at 1/48 thaler, this coin had only 1/53 as much silver. In 1750, the mints were reorganized and the mintmaster's initials dropped in favor of mintmarks (A = Berlin, B = Breslau, C = Cleve, D = Aurich, E = Konigsberg, F = Magdeburg and G = Stettin).

Recorded mintage: 240,464.

Specification: 1.43 g, 0.219 fine silver, this specimen 1,31 g.

Catalog reference: KM 250, Olding 161 a; Kluge 192.1.
