Prussia 1752-B 1/12 thaler
The first specimen was lot 3427 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €130 (about US$181 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/12 Taler 1752, B, Breslau. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one-twelfth thaler of 1752, Breslau mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 3428 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,183 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/12 Taler 1752, B, Breslau. Mit FRIDERICVS BORVSSORVM REX in der Vorderseitenumschrift. RR Herrliche Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler, fast Stempelglanz, Exemplar der Lagerliste Fritz Rudolf Künker 83, Osnabrück 1988, Nr. 282 und der Slg. Manfred Olding, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 10; Osnabrück 1988, Nr. 78. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, one-twelfth thaler of 1752, Breslau mint, with "FRIDERICVS BORVSSORVM REX" in the obverse legend. Very rare, handsome patina, minor field marks, about uncirculated.)"
This type was struck in large numbers at several mints 1750-55. Many varieties exist of which we show two here.
Recorded mintage: 7,695,915 for 1751-52.
Specification: 3.34 g, 0.437 fine silver, the first specimen 3.47 g; the second specimen 3,64 g.
