Künker sale 353, lot 3748

This specimen was lot 3748 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €20 (about US$28 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Kreuzer 1752, B, Breslau. Prägungen für die Provinz Schlesien. Mit BORUS in der Vorderseitenumschrift. Sehr schön. Erworben am 29.11.1992 von Manfred Olding, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, kreuzer of 1752, Breslau mint, struck for the province of Silesia, with "BORUS" in the obverse legend. Very fine.)"

After Frederick the Great seized Silesia in 1742, he issued kreuzer denominated coinage for the province which did not directly convert into the thaler-based coinage used in the rest of the realm. One, three, six, 15 and 18 kreuzer were issued along with one and two groschel pieces. This type is listed for 1752-57 and 1763 and seems to have been made in decent quantities. The last kreuzer was struck in 1797.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 0,70 g.

Catalog reference: KM 960.1 (listed under Silesia), Olding 310 a; Kluge 307.1.
