Prussia 1752-W E 3 groscher
This specimen was lot 3648 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €650 (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 3-Gröscher 1752, W/E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit Signatur W im Armabschnitt und FRIDERICUS BORUSSOR REX in der Vorderseitenumschrift sowie MON ARG - REG PRUS in der Rückseitenumschrift. Stempelschneider Otto Herman Wissel. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtvolles Porträt, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Manfred Olding, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 10, Osnabrück 1988, Nr. 353 und der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 19, Osnabrück 1991, Nr. 563. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, three groscher of 1752, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with initial "W" below the bust and "MON ARG - REG PRUS" in the reverse legend. Very scarce in this quality, choice portrait, extremely fine.)"
The three groscher and the accompanying six groscher and eighteen groscher were used in East Prussia and the neighboring parts of Poland. This type of 1751-54 was the first of the denomination minted since 1723.
