Künker sale 353, lot 3652

This specimen was lot 3652 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €65 (about US$91 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 3-Gröscher 1754, E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit spiegelverkehrtem Münzzeichen Ǝ E. Äußerst selten. Prägeschwäche, sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Manfred Olding, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 10, Osnabrück 1988, Nr. 370. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, three groscher of 1754, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with a reversed "E" mintmark. Very scarce, weakly struck, very fine.)"

The three groscher and the accompanying six groscher and eighteen groscher were used in East Prussia and the neighboring parts of Poland. This type of 1751-54 was the first of the denomination minted since 1723.
