Prussia 1753-E 3 groscher
This specimen was lot 3650 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €180 (about US$251 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 3-Gröscher 1753, E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit FRIDERICVS BORVSSOR REX in der Vorderseitenumschrift und MON ARG - REG PRUS in der Rückseitenumschrift. R Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 4, Dortmund 1994, Nr. 438. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, three groscher of 1753, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with "FRIDERICVS BORVSSOR REX" in the obverse legend and "MON ARG - REG PRUS" in the reverse legend. Rare, about very fine.)"
The three groscher and the accompanying six groscher and eighteen groscher were used in East Prussia and the neighboring parts of Poland. This type of 1751-54 was the first of the denomination minted since 1723.
