Künker sale 353, lot 3434

This specimen was lot 3434 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €280 (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1753, C, Cleve. Mit Kerbrand. Schön. Exemplar der Slg. Erich Hensgen, Auktion Kölner Münzkabinett 46, Köln 1988, Nr. 678. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1753, Cleve mint, with reeded edge. Fine.)"

This type was struck 1751-53 but is fairly scarce. Other thalers were struck at Breslau (Dav-2583) and Berlin (Dav-2582) in 1750-52. Despite the bold label, "EIN REICHS THALER," it was not, being reduced in weight and fineness.
