Künker sale 353, lot 3599

This specimen was part of lot 3599 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), which sold for €160 (about US$223 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/24 Taler ...b) 1/24 Taler 1753 G, Stettin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Mittleres Monogramm. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/24 thaler of 1753, Stettin mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg, mid-sized monogram. One of 3 pieces.)"

This is the first issue of this denomination that is not extremely rare. The SCWC lists this date as KM 263 (date on reverse) yet this example is clearly KM 264 (date on obverse). This coin was valued at 1/24 thaler yet contained only 1/26 as much silver.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.08 g, 0.312 fine silver, this specimen 2,14 g.

Catalog reference: KM 264, Kluge 184.1; Olding 177 b
