Prussia 1753-G 1/48 thaler
The first specimen was lot 3600 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €60 (about US$84 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler 1753, G, Stettin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Schmales Monogramm. Vorzüglich. Erworben am 13.5.1995 von Manfred Olding, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler of 1753, Stettin mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg, thin monogram. Extremely fine.)"
The second specimen was part of lot 3601 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), which sold for €140 (about US$195 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler a) 1/48 Taler 1753 G, Stettin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Breites Monogramm. 1,15 g. Kluge 199; Olding 178 b. Exemplar der Auktion Schulten + Co. Köln, Oktober 1988, Nr. 1712. b) 1/48 Taler 1753 G, Stettin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Breites Monogramm und leicht verändertes Münzzeichen. Exemplar der Auktion Tempelhofer Münzenhaus, Heinz Senger 153, Berlin 2017, Nr. 739. 2 Stück., Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler of 1753, Stettin mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg, broad monogram. [One of] two pieces, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1750-53. Altho valued at 1/48 thaler, this coin had only 1/53 as much silver. In 1750, the mints were reorganized and the mintmaster's initials dropped in favor of mintmarks (A = Berlin, B = Breslau, C = Cleve, D = Aurich, E = Konigsberg, F = Magdeburg and G = Stettin). Numerous varieties exist of which we show two here.

Specification: 1.43 g, 0.219 fine silver, the first specimen 1,15 g, the second specimen 1,35 g.
