Künker sale 353, lot 3567

This specimen was lot 3567 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €65 (about US$91 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler 1756, A, Berlin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Sehr schön +. Erworben am 9.11.1985 von Fritz Rudolf Künker, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler of 1756, Berlin mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg. Very fine or better.)"

This type was struck 1753, 1756, 1760, 1763. Altho valued at 1/48 thaler, this coin had only 1/53 as much silver. The weight was reduced to 0.97 g in 1764. Numerous varieties exist.
