Künker sale 353, lot 3639

This specimen was lot 3639 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €65 (about US$91 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 6-Gröscher 1756, A/E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit Signatur A im Armabschnitt und PRVS in der Rückseitenumschrift. Stempelschneider Jakob Abraham. Sehr schön +. Exemplar der Auktion Möller 14, Kassel 1994, Nr. 1203. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, six groscher of 1756, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with the initial "A" below the bust and "PRVS" in the reverse legend. Very fine or better.)"

The six groscher and the accompanying three groscher and eighteen groscher were used in East Prussia and the neighboring parts of Poland. This type of 1753-57 was the first of the denomination minted since 1723. The Königsberg mint also struck another six groscher with a crowned bust (KM C279) in 1755, which is considerably scarcer.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.12 g, silver, 21-22 mm diameter, this specimen 2,67 g.

Catalog reference: KM A277, Olding 210 a; Kluge 227.1.
