Künker sale 353, lot 3440

This specimen was lot 3440 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,619 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 8 Gute Groschen 1754, D, Aurich. RR Leicht justiert, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Erworben am 29.11.1981 von Fritz Rudolf Künker, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, eight good groschen of 1754, Aurich mint. Very rare, lightly adjusted, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This date is common for the type, which was struck 1753-59, 1763. Tall and short busts were struck simultaneously in this period, tho usually not at the same mint.

Recorded mintage: 56,925.

Specification: 8.35 g 0.666 fine silver, this specimen 8.42 g.
