Künker sale 353, part of lot 3651

This specimen was part of lot 3651 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), which sold for €220 (about US$306 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 3-Gröscher a) 3-Gröscher 1753 ST/E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Mit Signatur St im Armabschnitt FRIDERICVS BORVSSOR REX in der Vorderseitenumschrift sowie PRUS in der Rückseitenumschrift. Stempelschneider Johann Julius Steinbrück. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 19, Osnabrück 1991, Nr. 564. ...2 Stück., Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, three groscher of 1753, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia, with the initial "St" below the bust and "PRUS" in the reverse legend. [One of] two pieces, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The three groscher and the accompanying six groscher and eighteen groscher were used in East Prussia and the neighboring parts of Poland. This type of 1751-54 was the first of the denomination minted since 1723.
