Künker sale 353, lot 3705

This specimen was lot 3705 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €200 (about US$278 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 4 Mariengroschen 1752, F, Magdeburg. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. R Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, four mariengroschen of 1752, Magdeburg mint, struck for the western provinces. Rare, toned, about extremely fine.)"

The denomination was struck only at Magdeburg and this was the first issue since 1706 (KM 57). It is not priced in the SCWC. Two and one mariengroschen (KM F268 and KM E268) were also struck in 1752. A similar coin was struck a few years later at the Aurich mint in East Friesland. One thaler equalled 36 mariengroschen.
