Künker sale 353, lot 3707

This specimen was lot 3707 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €200 (about US$278 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 2 Mariengroschen 1764, F, Magdeburg. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. R Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Erworben am 29.1.1971. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, two mariengroschen of 1764, Magdeburg mint, struck for the western provinces. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This rare type is listed but not priced in the SCWC. It accompanied by an equally scarce mariengroschen. After narrowly escaping complete destruction in the Seven Years' War, Frederick II henceforth pursued a much less warlike foreign policy.
