Künker sale 353, lot 3657

This specimen was lot 3657 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 2-Gröscher 1764, E, Königsberg. Prägung für die Provinz Preußen. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 49, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 1295. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, two groscher of 1764, Königsberg mint, struck for the province of Prussia. Scarce in this quality, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in 1764 and 1768 for use in Prussia and likely Poland. The weak Polish government could do little to prevent the dumping of debased coin and Prussia, Russia and Austria were quick to take advantage.

Recorded mintage: 960,060.

Specification: 1.54 g, silver, 19 mm diameter, this specimen is 1,52 g.

Catalog reference: KM A296, Olding 229; Kluge 241.6.
