Künker sale 353, lot 3595

This specimen was lot 3595 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €60 (about US$84 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler 1764, F, Magdeburg. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. RR Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 16, Osnabrück 1990, Nr. 1498. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler of 1764, Magdeburg mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg. Very rare, very fine.)"

This type was struck 1764-70 in large quantities. After narrowly escaping complete destruction in the Seven Years' War, Frederick II henceforth pursued a much less warlike foreign policy.
