Künker sale 353, lot 3568

This specimen was lot 3568 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €80 (about US$111 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/48 Taler 1764, A, Berlin. Prägung für die Mark Brandenburg. Mit zierlichem Monogramm. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben 1971. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, 1/48 thaler, Berlin mint, struck for the mark of Brandenburg. Handsome toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1764-70 in large quantities. After narrowly escaping complete destruction in the Seven Years' War, Frederick II henceforth pursued a much less warlike foreign policy.
