Künker sale 293, lot 360

This specimen was lot 360 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €360 (about US$485 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 1/2 Reichstaler preuß. 1764, F, Magdeburg. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön +. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Erworben im Mai 2001 von Manfred Olding, Osnabrück. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II (the Great), 1740-86, half thaler of 1764, Magdeburg mint. Minor edge defects, very fine or better.)"

Half thalers were not a common denomination in Prussia. This one year type is rare; a similar type (KM 304), with a slightly different hairstyle for the king, was minted at Berlin and Magdeburg 1764-67 and is more available.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.13 g, 0.750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Olding 122; Kluge 140.1, KM-305.
