Prussia 1764-A thaler Dav-2586
This specimen was lot 3463 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,531 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Reichstaler preuß. 1764, A, Berlin. Berliner Typ. Auf der rechten Seite der Waffengruppe 6 Spitzen. Vorzüglich. Erworben im Juni 1986. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, thaler of 1764, Berlin mint, Berlin type, with six points on the right side of the weapons. Extremely fine.)"
This thaler was struck in substantial quantities 1764-74. Being lighter and lower in silver than those of Prussia's neighbors, such as Brunswick and Saxony, it was spent and the others hoarded, leaving few survivors in choice condition altho worn examples are readily available.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.
