Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70634

This specimen was lot 70634 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1848-Mo GC. Mexico City Mint. NGC AU-58. Tied for second finest certified of the date with two other examples on the NGC population report, only one finer (MS 65+). This surprisingly SCARCE and underrated issue offers a bold strike with even wear and light attractive tone." The 1848-Mo GC is a common date. Assayer GC (not to be confused with mintmark GC) is listed for 1848-53.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common per the SCWC.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
