This specimen was lot 33961 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,000. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico: Republic 8 Reales 1847 Mo-MF AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Mexico City mint. The key date of the entire Mexico City production, and among the most sought after in the entire Caps and Rays series. While displaying a characteristic soft strike to the central devices, with Dunigan and Parker noting 'softness (of strike is) .. the norm,' the piece at hand endures as an impressive survivor of an exclusively low-grade series, with only a minute handful in or near Mint State." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Mexico City mint. This date is very rare along with an 1847/6 overdate. Assayer MF is recorded for 1844-47 and assayer RC for 1847 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a very rare date.
